Charles Jenkins

Charles Jenkins is a Melbourne songwriter/musician and performer with more than 20 years experience in the Australian Music Industry. Starting out with the rockabilly/punk outfit the Mad Turks from Istanbul through to power-pop band the Icecream Hands, Charles is now forging a successful solo career, receiving critical acclaim for his three solo albums.

Charles has recorded and released nine albums, both locally and internationally including his two solo albums Bungalow (2004) and The City Gates (2005). He has toured Europe and America as a solo artist and toured the USA with the Icecream Hands. His latest solo album Blue Atlas was released early 2009.

A published songwriter for more than 15 years, Charles signed to Mushroom Publishing in 2004, and his songs have been placed in local and international television and film and recorded by artists of the calibre of Rebecca Barnard and Kerri Simpson. He has been nominated for two ARIAS with the band Icecream Hands, and performed on the SBS music show RocKwiz. Of late he has co-written songs with Mick Thomas (Weddings, Parties, Anything), Angie Hart (Frente), Abby Dobson (Leonardo's Bride), Felicity Urqhardt and Suzannah Espie.

Charles has run song writing, vocal and performance workshops over the last 5 years with a wide cross section of the community. From those in disadvantaged situations such as at Gateway House, or with the Berry St Organisation, or in the Juvenile Justice system; to facilitating songwriting programs or being an artist in residence throughout Victoria, to running one on one workshops with up and coming young Victorian songwriters with the program Push Songs.
